14 WESTERN-SYDNEY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN A HEROES WITH ABILITY PROGRAM THAT IS TRULY INCLUSIVE

The aim of the program (launched amongst 14 Western-Sydney schools) is to involve students both with and without a disability to participate in sports activities together.

The current program started at the beginning of March 2022 and the effect on students has been remarkable. Mr. Brookfield, a teacher at one of the selected high schools said:

‘The Heroes With Ability inclusiveness program teaches our students the basic skills of rugby league in a fun, engaging and safe environment. By being inclusive it has the added benefits of promoting social interaction and inclusive awareness.

To watch both groups of students high-fiving each other after a try is scored is priceless!’

Olivia Pham, another teacher at a participating school also commented:

‘The greatest thing, I can do as a teacher is to put a smile on the faces of my students. Each time Heroes With Ability runs their program, my students’ smiles get that much brighter. Thank you for offering a service that means so much to them. Thank you for their smiles.’
